A city built around a mine.
Northern Cape | 21 August
I woke up quite early today at 04h30 and left at 05h00 to get to my location for the days shoot which was based in Kathu in the Northern Cape. This ended up being a 322km drive from Kimberley.
I arrived at around 08h30, after two coffee stops, and met up with Rudi from Workwear Depot in Kimberley. It was a great drive and amazing to have seen how the landscape has been changing since I left Durban on Monday.
We arrived at the Aveng Moolman Mine and went through an intense induction and security check before we were allowed on site. It was a great day on site and I managed to get down into the mine, which was fantastic. I later found out that it is the world’s largest open air mine. We finished up after doing our interview and grabbed some lunch. At around 13h30 I took the long drive back to Kimberley.
I arrived at 5pm , headed straight to Woolies to get some dinner and went back to the guest house I was staying at – Five Acres Guest House.
